POWERED BY PARENTS
When a child enrolls at First Lutheran, his or her parent also immediately becomes a partner in the First Lutheran community. We value a parent's interest in and support of their child's progress, and their efforts to work cooperatively with the faculty to assure a positive learning experience. To this end, we promote an environment of open communication and mutual respect between parents and the school. There are many opportunities for parents to become involved at FLS. Volunteers fuel the many special events and programs at First Lutheran School. Whatever your special skills or passion, we need you!
PARENT-TEACHER FELLOWSHIP (PTF)
PTF is the primary fundraising and fellowship arm of First Lutheran School. The group is open to all FLS parents, and works to improve the school through fundraising efforts, and plans events to bring together school families. The PTF is a great way to meet other parents and provide input on activities. The PTF meets on first Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.
ADVENTURES IN ART
ADVENTURES IN ART
In addition to art instruction incorporated into the regular academic curriculum, First Lutheran School students participate in the non-judgmental art program, Adventures in Art. This program is staffed entirely by parent volunteers trained as docents to teach specific art lessons. Lessons are taught in classrooms at all grade levels throughout the year. No previous art experience or skills are needed.
Each classroom has a room parent who works with the classroom teacher and other parents to coordinate special events.
PRINCIPAL'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE
This group of teacher, student and parent representatives meets monthly with the principal to discuss school issues and develop plans for improvement.
Parents assist teachers as chaperones on various class field trips.
Parents help transport our student athletes to away games for the interscholastic sports teams.
Throughout the school year, the eighth-grade class sponsors events to raise funds for the East Coast trip in June. Parents help plan and supervise these programs.
A crew of volunteer parents distribute the hot lunches to students each day.
MOMS in PRAYER
Mothers from First Lutheran meet every other week to pray for the students, staff and families of our school.
Parents can volunteer as judges for the science fair and speech meet, Career Day speakers, library assistants, staff at the school book fair, "stagehands" for the winter and spring musical productions, organizers and workers for the Holiday Gift Shop, chaperones for the dances and receptions and so much more.
