To honor state health directives, and to ensure the greatest safety and protection for our community, our current listing of services and gatherings has been updated. At this time, masks are required for all attendees to indoor worship services and events (effective 7/17/2021). Health directives and protocols for Los Angeles County remain in effect.
Reopening with Care: In the weeks to come, look for updates on expanded in-person worship and ministry programming and scheduling. While we are now able to return to worship in the Sanctuary, we will continue streaming all our Sunday worship services as well. We encourage everyone to consider their own health status and needs in terms of in-person worship, even as we welcome many back to the regular practice of Word and Sacrament here.
In addition, our streamed services on Facebook Live each week will include “Virtual Holy Communion.” We encourage those worshiping from home to prepare bread and wine, and to participate fully during this interim period of staying at home. We all look forward to returning to in-person Communion for everyone
Please keep our community in prayer as we do all we can to safely and prudently reopen the many ministries our First Lutheran community relies upon. We hope that our worship services and resources will provide inspiration and hope in these difficult times. We encourage those at higher infection risk to continue participating safely from home, through our streaming options.
For more information, please see the resources and links below. All are welcome!
With you in God’s good work,
Pastor Bill Hurst
Living Water Communion - 5:30pmThis intimate service of Water, Word and Table combines contemporary music and proclamation in a smaller group setting. We gather in a circle around the Bread of Life in Holy Communion, receiving and sharing the bread and cup as saints and servants. Baptisms are frequent at these services, and it’s not uncommon to find special parish events and musical offerings at these services as well.
Classic Communion - 8:30amThe Lord’s Day begins with this traditional service of repentance, word, table and discipleship. Musical accompaniment is provided by the church’s magnificent pipe organ, and supported by an adult choir. Often times there are special offerings by our bell choirs, children’s ensembles or school classes. Communion is always celebrated, and people of all ages and backgrounds are welcomed to the Table of Christ’s presence and grace. A festive coffee hour follows the service, offering hospitality, food and friendship.
Praise Communion - 10:30amWorship and praise is pretty diverse at First, and our late morning service is a good example of this diversity. A praise band leads this service, with voices, piano, synthesizer, guitars and percussion. Proclamation and teaching are presented with sensitivity to the ages and backgrounds of the community, and a spirit of joy and thanksgiving pervades these services year round. Our high quality Sunday School program is held during the service, and children of all ages rejoin us for Communion and final blessing. Caring child care is provided at both Sunday services.
FL KIDS - Sunday School - 10:30 am (September - June)
Day School Chapel services - Weekly - September - June
The members of our day school community gather each week for two energetic services of praise and teaching. Our pastoral staff leads these times of prayer and praise, and a student praise band adds contemporary voice and song.
Early Education Center/Preschool Chapel ServiceWeekly, on Wednesdays and Thursdays (year round).
