Mission El Salvador
. In the summer of 2008, First Lutheran Church partnered with Pastors Anna-Kari and Kristian Johnson on two missionary trips to San Salvador, El Salvador. During those trips, several members of our congregation were privileged to partake in the following activities: Habitat for Humanity home builds, working at the local elementary school, visiting near-by colleges, learning about the local culture and history of El Salvador, and serving at The Hope House, the neighborhood homeless shelter. Since that time, this ministry has grown beyond our wildest expectations! Our Southern California synod and the synod of El Salvador have become companion synods, First Lutheran School has become a sister school with Colegio Luterano Salvadoreno, and a student sponsorship program to assist children in attending Colegio Luterano Salvadoreno is entering its third successful year. In addition, an annual hunger walk takes place every Thanksgiving to raise money for The Hope House, medical equipment and supplies are collected once a year and sent to the neighboring communities in El Salvador, fundraisers for specific items are held annualy for the Colegio Luterano campus, visitors/dignitaries from San Salvador - including the Bishop of the Lutheran churches - have come to visit our local community, and serval teams continue to travel each summer to continue missionary work in this country that desperately needs our support.
