First Lutheran Church is a mission & ministry community in the greater Los Angeles area, in continuous service since its founding in1926. A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), FLCS ranks among the most culturally diverse congregations of its size in the ELCA, a growing and truly international ministry of congregation and schools in Christ Jesus.
In obedience to the Gospel of Christ, we welcome all people to full participation in worship, learning, community and service. The 500 seat sanctuary, dedicated in 2001, plays host to more than 750 people of all ages and backgrounds each week. In addition to worship, we offer learning, serving, support and fun activities for all ages.

For more than 50 years, First Lutheran School has served as a learning community of excellence in academics and faith for the South Bay.
FLS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and has been nationally recognized as a school of excellence. Our principal, Mrs. Sandy Ammentorp, is a National Distinguished Principal and a recipient of the Principal of the Year Award given by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
We serve 400 students in developmental kindergarten through eighth grade.The elementary, intermediate and middle schools have two classes at each grade level, with an average of 20 students per class.
The FLS academic curriculum follows California content standards with additional classes in physical education, art, vocal and instrumental music, library skills, religion and computer. After-school sports, science adventures, youth groups, church choirs, and performing arts round out the curriculum during and after school.
Our First Lutheran After School Hours (FLASH) program offers extended day care provided by qualified and caring counselors between 7 and 8:30 a.m., and between 3 and 6 p.m., as well as in special holiday and summer sessions. |

First Lutheran Early Education Center (EEC) provides families with an excellent morning preschool program as well as full day child care for children age 6 weeks to 5 years in two locations in the South Bay.
The EEC is a member center of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association, and our Director, Mrs. Shirley Becker, has received the Director of the Year Award by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Our Infant/Toddler program offers a safe, loving environment in which your little one can thrive. EEC Preschool classes provide a nurturing and creative environment for three, four and five year olds, where they can explore, discover, and blossom.
Low teacher/child ratios and experienced and educated teachers make First Lutheran Early Education Center a wonderful place for children to grow. Our programs have been recognized as truly excellent settings for education, caring and growth for kids! |
