First Lutheran Church is a mission & ministry community in the greater Los Angeles area, in continuous service since its founding in1926. A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), FLCS ranks among the most culturally diverse congregations of its size in the ELCA, a growing and truly international ministry of congregation and schools in Christ Jesus.

In obedience to the Gospel of Christ, we welcome all people to full participation in worship, learning, community and service. We are eager to experience and share the Good News of God's love in Christ Jesus. We welcome you to visit and worship, and to become a partner in this caring community of Christian faith for all people.

The 500 seat sanctuary, dedicated in 2001, plays host to more than 750 people of all ages and backgrounds each week. In addition to worship, we offer learning, serving, support and fun activities for all ages.

Please browse through the links for both First Lutheran Church and First Lutheran School to learn more about us, and contact us if we can be of service to you in your walk with God.
First Lutheran School has served for more than 50 years as a learning community of excellence in academics and faith for the South Bay.

FLS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and has been nationally recognized as a school of excellence. Our Principal, Mrs. Sandy Ammentorp, received a 2009 U.S. Distinguished Principal Award and Principal of the Year Award by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

We serve 400 students in Developmental Kindergarten through 8th grade, and 120 in our Infant-Toddler and Preschool Program. The elementary school has two classes averaging 20 students per class for every grade level.

The FLS academic curriculum follows California content standards with additional classes in PE, Art, Music, Library Skills, and Computer. After-school sports, Science Adventures, youth groups, church choirs, and performing arts round out the curriculum during and after school.

Extended day care with qualified and caring counselors is offered between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m., and between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m.
First Lutheran Early Education Center (EEC) provides families with an excellent morning preschool program as well as full day child care for children age 6 weeks to 5 years in two locations in the South Bay.

The EEC is a member center of the Evangelical Lutheran Education Association, and our Director, Mrs. Shirley Becker, has received the Director of the Year Award by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Our Infant/Toddler program offers a safe, loving environment in which your little one can thrive. EEC Preschool classes provide a nurturing and creative environment for three, four and five year olds, where they can explore, discover, and blossom.

Low teacher/child ratios and experienced and educated teachers make First Lutheran Early Education Center a wonderful place for children to grow.
Our programs have been recognized as truly excellent settings for education, caring and growth for kids!
