First Lutheran Church & School

Welcome to the First Lutheran Church & School Website!

For more than 80 years as a Christian congregation and a half-century as a Christian school, First Lutheran has been serving the South Bay and beyond with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are glad to welcome you to learn more about this faith community, and to join our communal life of worship, learning, friendship and Christian service in the name of Jesus.

In the many pages on this site you’ll learn a lot about First – our values and history, mission and vision, theology and confessions, programs and activities. Our goal through all that we are and have is to be “a caring community of Christian faith for all people.” It’s my hope that this commitment to caring service, fervent faith and embracing welcome are what people experience here at First, and what we together will build in the Spirit in the years to come.

At its most basic level, being a ministry partner at First is a matter of claiming our identity as children of God and followers of Christ. Children and adults not yet baptized are invited to “come to the water,” and we’re always glad to speak with people about baptism and the Christian journey. Those already baptized are invited to fully participate in Christ’s community through worship and learning, praying and welcoming, giving and serving together.

But please know that you are already welcome here, and that we give
thanks for you as a child of God and as a partner in Christ’s mission in this
place. As Paul rightly says, “You are the body of Christ, and each of you is
a part of it.” That’s how we feel too – we already belong to one another
in the welcome arms of Christ Jesus!
